We think that 2015 is an advantageous time to be a part of the Social Capital Council.  The Council is a cadre of energetic and socially conscious professionals who want to connect with community development activities, green economy issues and social entrepreneurship in Pittsburgh.

1. Attend Fun and Meaningful Events

These events aren’t your typical networking events. Sure when you attend a GTECH event you’ll have the opportunity to mingle with community development mavericks, social innovators, and Pittsburgh changemakers, but you’ll probably be sipping on an East End brew made with hops from the Hops on Lots project.

We believe that events can be professional AND fun.

• The Inspire Speaker Series, held in partnership with the Green Building Alliance

• The Two Wheels Lots of Green Bike Fest event featuring vacant lot projects in Pittsburgh

Social Capital Councils also have the opportunity to get their hands dirty with these community-based projects:

• Cleaning and greening a vacant lot in Homewood along the Pittsburgh Marathon route with Operation Better Block and FedEx for the ReClaim the Route project.
• Implement a student-designed Green Space with the Andrew Street Propel Charter School and Starbucks

We invite Social Capital Council members to help Pittsburgh neighborhoods with some of the toughest challenges that face their communities. As a member, you’ll be invited to sit around a table with other Pittsburgh Movers and Shakers and provide insight to some of Pittsburgh neighborhoods’ toughest challenges – from the role of social enterprise in community development to how we approach community health from a holistic perspective.

3. Connect with an Inspiring Network of People

From nonprofit managers, to computer engineers, to a bevy of consultants, our SCC members have a wide array of professional experiences and skill sets.
