3 Must See GTECH Events in May

It is a busy, busy spring here at GTECH.  We have 3 events during the month of May that we think you might like. Check them out on GTECH’s event calendar by clicking the links below.

ReClaim the Route

MAY 3 @ 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM | Free

As a part of an annual partnership with the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, GTECH and community partners work to activate one of the hundreds of vacant lots that line the marathon route. This year, GTECH will partner with Homewood-based Operation Better Block to activate and program a lot along Frankstown Avenue. There will be food, entertainment and fun to add to the already festive atmosphere that makes Homewood the number one neighborhood for runners to run through during the event.

To add to the festivities, Canstruction Pittsburgh will be on site to build a one-of-a-kind structure made entirely of donated canned food while thousands of runners pass by the site. All canned food used during the construction of the structure will then be donated back to a local food bank for distribution. We are looking for volunteers to help with the construction of the structure and to come out and have a good time with us!

Can’t join us? Shop at Whole Foods Market and donate a can (or two!).

Rediscovering America’s True North: Resurgent Pittsburgh

MAY 4 @ 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM | Free

The BLK SHP (“Black Sheep”) are some of America’s leading creative thinkers, writers, policy-makers, artists and entrepreneurs — and they’re embarking on a bus trip across the United States in search of America’s “True North.” The bus tour will bring leading influencers and doers on a journey into small towns, former industrial heartlands, and into resilient communities to exchange views and sketch out a vision for America’s path forward.

The BLK SHP are coming to Pittsburgh on May 4 to learn from local leaders who are working to reinvent Pittsburgh from the ground up — bringing national attention to Pittsburgh’s story.  Engage with the BLK SHP for a morning panel discussion uncovering Pittsburgh’s “True North” — through pairings of BLK SHP and local leaders innovating in the fields of new economy, education, and culture and civic society.
