The 5 types of bikers who should check out Two Wheels Lots of Green

Bikers visited Linda's site during the Two Wheels Lots of Green event.
Our Riders come in all level and abilities.

1. The Explorer

Maybe we’re biased, but exploring Pittsburgh by bike is the best and most fun way to see the city. If you agree, this ride is for you!  You’re sure to notice new Pittsburgh-based gardens, shops, murals, buildings and other beauty on this year’s Two Wheels Lots of Green bike cruise as we weave through historic Northside neighborhoods. Whether you know the Northside well, or have had little interaction with it, we’re confident you’ll stumble on a hidden Steel City gem (or two).

2. The Hill Lover

Last year we biked up Mount Washington.

Hills. Pittsburgh has a few. Want to conquer a few? The 14-mile ride has some pretty serious elevation packed into it. After checking out the world’s largest bicycle museum and shop,  Bicycle Heaven, in the Chateau neighborhood, we’ll hook a right onto the Riverfront Trail and begin our climb not too long afterwards. The hills aren’t for the faint of heart as we’re basically climbing to the northern tip of Riverview Park. The long ride definitely counts as your workout for the day.

3. The Family Unit

Grab the kiddos and come ride!

The short is half the distance, but is still filled with family-friendly sites: RandylandBicycle Heaven and the Manchester Growing Together Garden, which hosts occasional children cooking classes  on site. (Plus you get to meet Lisa!)We have safety volunteers that know the route and will have first-aid and minor bike repair kits. Whether you have a bike trailer for young ones or your kids are old enough to ride solo, Two Wheels is a fun and safe event for the whole fam. An added bonus is that all persons under 18 ride for free with an adult registration!

4. The First-timer

Safety first!

Whether you’ve never ridden in the city, it’s been awhile since your last ride, or you’ve just completed the Confident City Cycling course run by Bike Pgh, we welcome you to join us for the Two Wheels Lots of Green short ride! There will be volunteers with each group that will lead, make sure no one falls behind and offer any assistance as needed. Both routes access the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, a place you can’t access in a vehicle. (If you’re a first-time rider, or you haven’t ridden in awhile, we strongly recommend choosing the 7-miler.) If you don’t have a bike ready to go, you can always use one the new ones from Healthy Ride Pittsburgh.

5. The Foodie

It’s not bragging if you’re talking about your friends, so we’re just gonna go ahead and say it: we’re psyched to have our kickoff and afterparty at Wigle Whiskey! (We’re going to note that whiskey doesn’t make for the best pre-ride hydration. Wait until after you’ve completed the ride.) On top of those libations, we’ll have plenty of coffee donated by Starbucks, smiley cookies from Eat N’ Park, lemonade donated from Whole Foods and water…lots of water. At the refresh stop at the Manchester Growing Together Community Garden, we will have treats from the Northside-based eateries: Bistro to Go, Chateau Cafe and Cakery and Fabled Table. At the Wigle after party, Pittsburgh food trucks, Berlin Street Food, Millies Homemade Ice Cream and Second Breakfast, will be offering up local eats. Not enough for you?  Green Mountain Energy will also be serving up bike-powered smoothies.

Whether you fall into one of the above categories or not, we’re sure you’ll have a blast. If you’re not up for riding, it’s cool– you’re more than welcome to come to the afterparty (for free!) at Wigle Whiskey’s Barrel House in Spring Garden from 6PM-9PM. Just RSVP here.
