Grounded’s Guide to Getting Kids Outside this Summer!

July 6th: Summer Carnival + Bantam Night – Join us at our 2nd Annual Summer Carnival and Bantam Night at the Wiggle Whiskey Barrel House and Whiskey Garden. This event is for the whole family! Play carnival games, listen to live music, and enjoy food from Gaucho’s food truck.

 

Check out one of our many Green Playces! Green Playces are hives of education, innovation, creativity, science and, most importantly, play. Grounded has partnered with organizations and schools throughout Allegheny County to create a handful of Green Playces across the county. Check out one of our Green Playces in Homewood, the Hill District, Munhall, Hilltop, McKeesport, Braddock, Northside, Wilkinsburg, and Clairton. Stop by one of the locations in your neighborhood!

Market Square KidsPlay – Starting June 12th, Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership is holding events called KidsPlay every Tuesday from 10am to 11:30am through August 28th and every Saturday from 10 am til 1pm through August 25th. Activities include crafts, storytelling, and live music. Learn more and see the full lineup here!

Local Parks – Pittsburgh is full of local parks and green spaces to get your kids outside in the summer months. Check out some staff favorites such as August Wilson Park, Frick Park’s Blue Slide Park, Mellon Park, and Highland Park. Additionally, we recommend checking out some of the City’s Spray Parks located at Arlington Playground, Vanucci Playground, Burgwin Playground, East Hills Park, Mellon Park, Cowley Playground and Beltzhoover Park. City Spray Parks are open in the summer from 10 am til 8 pm!

Bike trails – Take your children on a bike ride through one of the City’s many trails. Great options include: The Three Rivers Heritage Trail, which stretches from Millvale to the North Shore and extends throughout the City, the Great Allegheny Passage, that goes through Downtown, South Side, and Homestead, and many more! Our friends at BikePGH can provide Healthy Ride options if you don’t have a bike! Be sure to wear your helmets!

 

Cinema in the Park

Dollar Bank Cinema in the Park – Looking for a more relaxing way to spend an evening outdoors? Look no further than one of the many park locations where Dollar Bank is hosting Cinema at the Park. Each night of the week a different participating park has a variety of popular movies. Find the schedule here!
