Explore 23 maps that showcase Northside treasures

Treasure mapping in a quest to build community resources

This summer, we had the pleasure of working with 11 student researchers from Chatham, CMU and Penn State to map assets throughout the 18 Northside neighborhoods as part of the One Northside Asset Inventory and Mapping (Northside AIM) project.

We aimed to:

  • Engage the community to find as many resident-identified assets as possible
  • Map gems in every one of the 18 Northside neighborhoods
  • Encourage and support student talent and creativity
  • Package our findings in ways that can support other projects and partners

As part of our goal to make this information useful to as many people as possible, we created pretty maps, interactive maps and GIS maps. We hope that you will explore them, use them, share them and love them! Check them out:

  • Interactive GIS Map – this map includes the almost 1800 treasures that we found, including environmental, cultural, local economy, and transit asset maps. This interactive map allows you to turn features on and off, explore any area of the Northside, and be the master of your own exploration.
  • Bird’s Eve View Stylized Map – A fun graphic depiction of some of the assets we found.
  • Stylized Maps of Each Neighborhood – A fun graphic depiction of assets we found in each neighborhood.
  • Food Trail Map – The group of Food Studies students from Chatham created a food trail map to showcase some of the many wonderful coffee shops, restaurants, and nightlife establishments in the Northside.
  • Environmental Asset Map – this is a downloadable map that includes the 350+ environmental treasures that we found. It includes features such as parks, playgrounds and food gardens.
  • Cultural Asset Map – this is a downloadable map that includes the 290+ cultural treasures that we found. It includes features such as historical sites, public art, and statues.
  • Transit Asset Map – this is a downloadable map that includes the 600+ transit assets that we found. It includes features such staircases, bus shelters and wayfinding signage.
