A Fond Farewell and a Happy Welcome

It’s with mixed emotions that I announce my last day here at GTECH Strategies as the Marketing and Communications Manager. It’s been a wonderful three years 3 months. During my time here I’ve worked with amazingly smart and dedicated individuals and connected with incredible organizations who are making Pittsburgh (and beyond) a better place.

My next adventure involves working on my new home and consulting in the world of marketing and communications. So if you find yourself in need of demo or digital media advice, please drop me a line.

I also want to take a moment to introduce you to Katie McAuley, the newest voice behind GTECH’s blog.

Sara: What brought you to Pittsburgh?

Katie: I moved up here from Florida to attend Chatham University.

S: I bet you moved because of the weather. What made you stay here?

K: Well actually I moved away for a bit after I graduated. I moved to Austin to get my master’s degree in Urban Planning and worked for Habitat for Humanity while I was there. After I received my degree, I knew I wanted to return to Pittsburgh. I love the pride that Pittsburghers have for their City. That pride makes it great to work in the community development field, because people care so deeply about their neighborhoods.

S: What drew you to apply for this job at GTECH?

K: I really admire GTECH’s innovative way of reclaiming vacant lots by empowering people and communities. To me, it always appeared that they paid respect to the individual’s vision and considered communities’ history, knowledge and capacity for the spaces they helped create.

S: Well said Katie! I was drawn to GTECH’s greening work in communities, and how they folded in so many other layers of work – social enterprise, alternative energy and community development. Moving off work stuff, what else do you love to do in Pittsburgh?

K: I like reading and cooking with goodies I get from my Penn’s Corner CSA box. I also like seeing live music.

S: Have you read anything good recently?

K: I just finished Olive Kitteridge and watched a great HBO miniseries on it.

S: Ok, so I lied, one more GTECH themed question – what’s your favorite burrito filling?

K: Guacamole!

S: Hey, me too!
