Volunteer with GTECH

It’s that time of year again. The ground is soft and defrosted, the sun is shining (more or less,) and GTECH is back outside, putting shovels in the ground to transform land-use liabilities into community assets. As our projects enter their implementation phase, the GTECH calendar is filling up with opportunities for you to grab a dig bar, spade, or screwdriver and join us to reclaim land for the benefit of the community.

As part of our systems-based approach, we understand that it is critical for people to take action where action is possible. This action often comes in the form of on-the-ground implementation, which translates to many hands and many hours committed to hard work in the neighborhood to create tangible change. We also understand that implementation is not just about transforming a place, it can also be about connecting and inspiring the people who interact with the project. By volunteering with us, not only do you get to build amazing space, you also become a part of building stronger communities. Volunteer days represent opportunities for you to get outside, gain practical skills, learn first-hand about our work, engage with your neighbors, and give back to communities throughout Allegheny County.

There are many different types of projects going on this summer. You can help youth get outside by building play spaces and outdoor classrooms with Green Playces, addressing stormwater runoff by building rain gardens with GTECH GSI, or supporting community residents as they transform vacant land into a variety of community spaces (gardens, parklets, trails, and more) with ReClaim Clairton and Reclaim CentralThe work that is done on our volunteer days plays an essential role in improving the health of communities.

To get involved, check out our calendar and look for event titles that read: “Volunteers needed.” Clicking on the event will bring you to a page with more detailed information about the workday, it’s purpose, and the type of work required. On the event page, you will also find the contact information for that day’s volunteer coordinator. Please contact the coordinator to let us know that you are interested in volunteering and to receive any specific information or updates about the work day. You can also follow our calendar and newsletter to keep up with new opportunities as they arise.
