The 5 types of bikers who should check out Two Wheels Lots of Green Posted on August 9, 2016 by wpengine Share this post Our Riders come in all level and abilities. 1. The Explorer Maybe we’re biased, but exploring Pittsburgh by bike is the best and most fun way to see the city. If you agree, this ride is for you! This year’s guided bike tour features unique greenspaces, including gardens, games, colorful trailheads, outdoor classrooms designed by youth, a ribbon cutting ceremony, and an historic incline site turned into a greenway, and more. Whether you know South Pittsburgh well, or have had little interaction with the neighborhood, we’re confident you’ll stumble on a hidden Steel City gem. 2. The Hill Lover Last year we biked up Mount Washington. Hills! Pittsburgh has a few. Want to conquer a few? The 7 mile ride Rigorous Ride has some pretty serious elevation packed into it. We’ll be starting at the Garden on Gearing and biking our way down the Soutside Slopes to the Bandi Shaum Community Garden, then climbing our way back up again through the Historic Knoxville Incline Trail. 3. The Family Unit Grab the kiddos and come ride! The Relaxed Route is half the distance and filled with family-friendly sites, such as our Hilltop Green Playce in Allentown. We have safety volunteers that know the route and will have first-aid and minor bike repair kits. Whether you have a bike trailer for young ones or your kids are old enough to ride solo, Two Wheels is a fun and safe event for the whole family. An added bonus is that all persons under 18 ride for free with an adult registration! 4. The First-timer Safety first! Whether you’ve never ridden in the city, it’s been awhile since your last ride, or you’ve just completed the Confident City Cycling course run by Bike Pgh, we welcome you to join us for the Relaxed Route! There will be volunteers with each group that will lead, make sure no one falls behind and offer any assistance as needed (If you’re a first-time rider, or you haven’t ridden in awhile, we strongly recommend choosing the Relaxed Route) If you don’t have a bike ready to go, you can always use one the new ones from Healthy Ride Pittsburgh. 5. The Foodie In the morning we’ll have plenty of iced – coffee by Hilltop cafe Black Forge Coffee, bike powered smoothies from Green Mountain Energy, and water…lots of water. Through out the ride community members will have refreshments to share. Afterwards at the garden party at the Garden on Gearing we will have food for purchase from Sweet Peaches and a pop-up playground with City of Play. Whether you fall into one of the above categories or not, we’re sure you’ll have a blast. If you’re not up for riding, it’s cool– you’re more than welcome to come to the afterparty (for free!) it is at Beltzhoover Community Center 403 Gearing Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15210 from Noon – 2 pm.
