The Central Hub

Throughout The Hill District our ambassadors have teamed up into groups of two to three to tackle the objective of creating a new green space for the community. This project was headed by all of our ambassadors as a collaborative piece to show the power of unification towards created a placed based project. With that, the inspiration of the space was to combine elements of all the existing ReClaim Central lots and fused them into a singular grand space.

In the last week of May 2019, we completed our ReClaim Ambassador education workshop series with our new cohort.

For the month of June, the ambassadors began using different grassroots movement mobilization techniques to energize the community for the coming months and get the word out about the projects. This time was also to find residents, groups and organizations who were also interested in revitalizing vacant land, lots and buildings. Eager to get started the cohort finalized their site plans and began buying materials for first steps.

Throughout the summer Grounded hosted 4 intensive work-days with the help of volunteers from Student Conservation Association, Americorps, Engineers Without Borders, and community members. Finally, in August and September we finished the Central Hub greenspace. This site is complete with a stone walkway, benches, hopscotch, 3 planter boxes and a porch swing.
