South West Pittsburgh Data Collection

A complete survey of vacant land and stair assets will improve the planning capabilities in 14 South West Pittsburgh neighborhoods. Supported by Grounded Strategies’ ReGen resources, South West Pittsburgh Community Development Corporation (SWPCDC) completed the data collection with technical assistance from GTECH.

Grounded provided technical assistance including mapping, digital survey creation, training of data collectors, lending of tablets for data collection, and data processing resulting in a final report. The grant included a stipend to the SWPCDC to cover the cost to pay local resident data collectors.

The resulting report of vacant land and stair assets will inform future planning, including opportunities for development or conservation. The need for better connections may become evident where dilapidated stairs meet trails and parks.  Vacant land that overlays with low lying areas could present opportunities for green stormwater infrastructure (GSI).
