This year's 8th Bike Tour & Block Party event will feature Grounded's projects in Pittsburgh's eastern neighborhoods (East Liberty, Larimer, Homewood, and Wilkinsburg). At each stop, we will speak to community partners, learning about their journey and the transformation of vacant spaces into activated places. This year's SolarFest will be on Sunday, June 23rd at the Frick Environmental Center located at 2005 Beechwood Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15217 from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. There will be an electric vehicle car show, food trucks, music and information on solar, energy efficiency, efficient solar home design, community solar projects and ways to strengthen Pennsylvania’s renewable energy laws. The food trucks featured at this event include Pittsburgh Halal, Millie's Ice Cream, and Pittsburgh Taco.
Air Quality Community Listening Session that Council Person, Erika Strassburger is hosting on Wednesday, June 26th at 6:00 p.m. at Repair the World Pittsburgh (6022 Broad Street in East Liberty). The format will allow individuals and organizations to share their personal experiences and input on air quality in the Pittsburgh region. There will be a space where organizations can display educational materials, as well.
LISC Safety & Justice will present on their model of collaborative problems solving to address neighborhood crime and safety challenges, including discussion of why we should concentrate on place, the problem-solving process, the roles of community partners, and what success can look like. This method incorporates proven crime reduction strategies with relationship- and capacity-building approaches to support sustainable neighborhood improvement. Come learn about the issues surrounding stormwater runoff, sanitary sewage overflow, and the impact they have on your community. The purpose of this event is to get families motivated about taking care of their communities through education about stormwater runoff and how community members can get involved.
The Hosanna House is hosting a Health and Wellness Block Party to provide fun activities and health resources to the community. activities include: bounce house, face painting, caricatures, carnival games, cotton candy, popcorn, soul line dancing, Zumba, vendors and more! Grounded will have a table there from 1pm-4pm.
Bring the kids to learn about stormwater runoff and sanitary sewage overflow through the medium of art! This event will help kids to understand the severity of stormwater runoff through crafts.
Join us for our volunteer day with The Mission Continues, Morning Star Baptist Church, and the greater Hazelwood community as we further revitalize the church and make upgrades to a once vacant lot. We will be painting, building picnic tables, laying gravel and mulch, and more. All ages and abilities are welcome! Breakfast, coffee, lunch, water, t-shirts, and all tools provided.
