Sarah Kremer ReEnergize Pittsburgh Ambassador “I applied to the ReEnergize program because I thought it was an innovative way to help my community and support a global cause in a local way.” About Me. I’m from a small town called South Bend, Indiana. I moved to Pittsburgh a couple of years ago after I fell in love with it during a summer internship. Now I work at a print shop in Millvale doing graphic design and marketing. When I was 20, the mayor of South Bend asked me to run for a seat on his board of trustees. Getting to run for public office was one of the most unique experiences I’ve ever had. After going to college in an even smaller town in the middle of nowhere, I’m enjoying the perks of living in civilization again. I love going to all the great museums, shows and events around Pittsburgh. Millvale has been growing since I moved here two years ago, but there are still some problems, like the lack of a grocery store within walking distance and the shortage of after-school and weekend youth activities. What does community mean to you? I think a strong community is kind of like a family. What is your favorite place in your neighborhood? The library. It’s quaint, provides a space for many different groups and it’s solar-powered. It’s a great location for all sorts of activities including yoga, book clubs, and arts and crafts– kind of like our community’s living room. Why do you think it is important to help your neighbors become more energy efficient? Many people in our community want to become more sustainable and energy efficient, but they think that they can’t afford it. I want to show them that they can easily and affordably reduce their energy usage.
