As a part of an annual partnership with the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, GTECH and community partners work to activate one of the hundreds of vacant lots that line the marathon route. This year, GTECH will partner with Operation Better Block, a Homewood based community development organization, to activate and program a lot along Frankstown Avenue. There will be food, entertainment and fun to add to the already festive atmosphere that makes Homewood the number one neighborhood for runners to run through during the event.
To add to the festivities, Canstruction Pittsburgh will be on site to build a one-of-a-kind structure made entirely of donated canned food while thousands of runners pass by the site. All canned food used during the construction of the structure will then be donated back to a local food bank for distribution. We are looking for volunteers to help with the construction of the structure and to come out and have a good time with us!
You can help in two ways:
1. Sign up to volunteer with us on May 3rd at Pittsburgh Cares
2. Purchase 365 canned goods at Whole Foods and drop them off in the ReClaim the Route donation bin.
