Ra Heggins

AmeriCorps Fellow: Land Stewardship Innovation

Pronouns: she/her

Rashelle (Ra) was born in Frankfurt, Germany, and has been stationed at many bases across the United States, which has given way to her being a chameleon and being able to thrive in many arenas and atmospheres. Originally an army brat from Fayetteville, North Carolina, she moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in February of 2016 to continue her community organizing in the nonprofit sector. She attended Emory and Henry College in Emory, Virginia, majoring in sports medicine and minoring in psychology while also having scholarships for soccer and volunteering.

Ra attended the Institute of Integrative Nutrition to become a health and lifestyle coach thereby finding her passion: which is to play in the dirt. She’s had her hands in landscaping, farming, and permaculture, as well as social justice, massage therapy, canvassing, carpentry, brick masonry, and other parts of construction.

She joined AmeriCorps because she wanted to serve while continuing her personal and professional development. She’s landed at Grounded Strategies, where she’s found that stewardship best sums up the carbon footprint that she wants to leave behind because, ultimately, as we take care of the planet, the planet takes care of us infinitely.
