Grounded At Home is a new campaign bringing miniature gardens, or “Grow Bags” to everyone! Whether you have access to a backyard, live in an apartment, are a master gardener, or have a green thumb, Grow Bags make gardening accessible to all! For every grow bag purchased, Grounded will distribute another to one of our program partners located in food-insecure and/or environmental justice communities in the Pittsburgh region. Grounded works with community-based organizations across Allegheny County as distributors to get the grow bags to these underserved residents free of charge. Existing Distribution Partners POWER – a Pennsylvania organization for women in the early stages of recovery Hello Neighbor – a Pittsburgh nonprofit committed to supporting recently resettled refugee families Families in various Pittsburgh area neighborhoods considered food deserts including House of Manna in Homewood and Hazelwood Initiative. Become a Distribution Partner! Here’s how it works: Distribution partners must be community-based organizations working in food insecure and/or environmental justice areas. Grounded staff work with distribution partners to record grow bag demand and coordinate pickup. Share your growth! Encourage the community residents you serve to use the #GroundedInGoodness to share their plant’s journey. Partner Communities Distribution partners must be community-based organizations working in one of the following food insecure and/or environmental justice areas: COMING SOON How we stay Grounded Equity in access to nature = community health Many residents across our county don’t have access to livable, well maintained green space. Being in and around nature reduces stress, relieves anxiety, improves educational achievement, and boosts earning potential. Low income and/or communities of color have the least access to high-quality open spaces. This is an environmental justice emergency. At Grounded, we: Equip and invest in the folks already stepping up to beautify their neighborhoods Transform distressed vacant lots into vibrant community spaces Push forward policy initiatives that increase equitable access to high-quality public spaces Work with youth partners to incorporate kids into the beautification of their communities Support local businesses and the efforts of our City Government to turn the issue of vacancy into an opportunity
