Evaine K. Sing

Executive Director

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands but seeing with new eyes.  – Marcel Proust

Evaine joined the Grounded team in 2012 as a Lauble Fellow from the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University. In her time at the organization, she has worked as a Fellow, Project Manager, Director of Operations – shaping much of what and how Grounded now works – and currently serves as the organization’s first Executive Director following the departure of founder and board emeritus, Andrew Butcher. Evaine believes in the power of community and that in order to own solutions, we must first own and accept responsibility for the challenges we face and that we can all learn from each other. This happens through the development of a strong network of partnership and support, a little creativity, and a ‘can and will do’ attitude.

As a registered Landscape Architect, design has played a role in Evaine’s career for the last decade from corporate design to community development, always with a focus on engaging those who are most affected by change and fostering a sense of ownership of the process as well as the product. This has resulted in a design to do motto which is now applied to almost every aspect of her work.

Coming from a family that is not US born and raised, Evaine has never felt that any single place could really claim to give her roots, until settling in Pittsburgh. 12 years later and quite at home, she still takes the opportunity to visit family across the world and is always looking for the next adventure.
