SUMMARY:Managing Chaos: Wrangling Projects and Clients
DESCRIPTION:Join me for an evening of stories\, learnings\, and strategies for managing clients and projects over the last 20 years.\nCreative and technical projects can be very challenging. It’s a delicate balance of producing the work\, showing empathy for client needs\, and defending the work order from scope creep. Without that right balance\, a project can go from dreamy to a nightmare in a single email. I know because I’ve received that email.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat can be done? How can this project be saved? What can be done to avoid it next time? These are all questions I’ve asked myself.\n\n\n\n\n\nWhich is why I’ve assembled a playbook of strategies based on my experiences. It’s a compilation of lessons learned from good\, bad\, and amazing projects. There are tips for starting new projects off on the right foot\, processes I’ve used to turn projects around\, approaches for mending stressed relationships\, and tips for keeping everyone honest. These are methods I use in my daily practice and I’m really excited to share them. It’s taken me most of my career to realize that it doesn’t have to be so hard and I’m delighted to pass on what I’ve learned.\n\n\nAGENDA\n\n\n6:00 – 6:15 – Networking and chit-chat\n\n\n6:15 – 7:00(ish) – Presentation\n\n\n7:00 – 8:00 – Head on over to Federal Galley to keep the conversations going.\n\nManaging Chaos: Wrangling Project and Clients is part 3 of a 4 part series entitled Working on the Web.

SUMMARY:21st Pittsburgh Racial Justice Summit
DESCRIPTION:We are very excited about the 21st Pittsburgh Racial Justice Summit\, a multi-cultural initiative of the Black & White Reunion. For the fourth consecutive year\, it will be hosted by the Metro-Urban Institute at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. \nThe Opening Ceremony and Organizing Dance Party is in partnership with Union Project. \nThis year brings a renewed energy\, with events starting Friday night and continuing into Saturday night: \n\nThe Opening Ceremony will take place on Friday evening\, January 25th at 6:30pm\, at the Union Project. Seating is limited for the Opening and must be reserved.\nThe core of the event is still a full day of panels and workshops\, on Saturday the 26th\, at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. The doors open at 8:00am. There will be a light continental breakfast\, and lunch is included.\nWe wrap up at the Union Project on Saturday night with an Organizing Dance Party at 7:30pm to connect\, celebrate\, and organize!\n\nIf you want to attend the panels and workshops on Saturday and go to the evening events\, too\, please register on this page. \nIf you are interested in only attending the Opening Ceremony on Friday night\, or the Organizing Dance Party on Saturday night\, please click here to go the page where you can register for them separately. \nThe Opening Ceremony has limited seating. When registering\, an RSVP is required. You may RSVP on the next page. \nPRJS is a volunteer-led and run organization. Registration proceeds are used to cover the costs of hosting the Summit and for the Jonny Gammage Scholarship Fund. We ask that those with access to more resources pay more and thus provide the cushion for those with less access to pay less\, creating a sustainable economic underpinning for the conference. \nMore than 800 people attended the Summit in 2018\, a testament to the value our community places on this unique action-oriented\, anti-racist educational\, networking\, and planning event. \nNote: The Friday night and Saturday night events are at the Union Project\, 801 N Negley Ave\, Pittsburgh\, PA 15206. The panels and workshops during the day on Saturday are at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. \nLooking forward to seeing you there! \nThank you for your commitment to justice.

SUMMARY:January 2019 TRCPA Meeting - Recognizing / Responding to an Active Shooter Event Three Rivers Contingency Planning Association (TRCPA)
DESCRIPTION:On January 11\, 2019\, from 1-3 p.m.\, the Three Rivers Contingency Planning Association TRCPA) will hold \nThe topic is Recognizing / Responding to an Active Shooter Event\, and the speaker is Thomas Hart\, Chief of Police / Director of Public Safety at Duquesne University. \nWhat if you found yourself in an active shooter event? Would you know how to recognize signs of potential violence around you and how to properly respond to give yourself the best chance to survive? \nActive shooter incidents are often unpredictable and evolve quickly. In the midst of the chaos\, everyone should have some basic training skills to help them in mitigating the impacts of an active shooter incident. The goal of this training will be to enhance an individual’s preparedness to properly respond to an active shooter incident. \nTom Hart\, Chief of Police/Director of Public Safety at Duquesne University\, has been instructing people since 1999 to empower them with a common-sense approach to recognize warning signs; and how to properly respond to protect themselves\, and others\, should they become involved in an active shooter event. A key objective of Tom’s program is to encourage the education and training that will provide people with the tools necessary to be prepared to respond and react to an active shooter situation. \n
