After you can try your luck at a t-shirt and beanie giveaway with a safe\, socially distant “thank-you” wrap-up featuring complimentary warm sips\, delicious bites\, and more. \nThere will be two check-in locations for your convenience: at The Lot on Renova ST or in the parking lot of Hazelwood Initiative’s offices (4901 Second Avenue) at 11 AM. Grounded will then lead 6-8 small groups of volunteers to multiple areas of the neighborhood to partake in a clean-up. You’ll be given your tools like bags\, picks\, and work gloves to get into helping make Hazelwood shine. DESCRIPTION:It’s time to ride!\nThis year’s 9th Annual Bike Tour event will feature Grounded’s projects in Hazelwood & Braddock!\nJoin the Grounded team for a fall bike ride to visit vibrant\, reclaimed community green spaces.  \nThe Pittsburgh region has over 30\,000 vacant lots\, many of which are overgrown and unmaintained. More importantly\, the majority of these vacant lots are concentrated in black and brown communities that happen to also be low-income\, creating an environmental and racial justice emergency. \nGrounded elevates community champions and their efforts to reclaim these abandoned spaces\, and turn them into vibrant community assets for everyone to enjoy. Come along and see these sites firsthand and meet the neighborhood advocates making it happen!  \nCostumes encouraged! A Prize for best costume will be determined by guest judges!!! \nAt each stop\, we will speak to community partners\, learning about their journey and the transformation of vacant spaces into activated places. For those who do not have a bike\, Healthy Ride bikes will be available for use! That’s one of the reasons why we created the p4 initiative – to ensure that this new growth benefits people\, enhances a sense of place\, contributes to a healthier planet\, and achieves the highest levels of financial and social performance.” – Mayor Bill Peduto \nExperience\nSurely you’ve heard about p4 by now – the city’s new framework for creating a sustainable\, innovative\, and inclusive model for development and design which focuses on People\, Place\, Planet\, and Performance. Launched in 2015 by the Mayor’s Office and the Heinz Endowments\, p4 is meant to build on our city’s strengths and opportunities while ensuring inclusive and thoughtful decision-making around future growth and development. Layered with values like sustainability and equitable development\, the p4 framework will play a pivotal role in ensuring that everyone in our city can benefit from its future growth. \nBut how can we be sure that a model like p4 will work? Enter the p4 Performance Measures Project. Over 100 people from all corners and sectors of the city engaged in a year-long\, collaborative process to create a quantifiable system of metrics for informing and improving decision-making on public investments in development projects. Their work resulted in 12 priority focus areas for improvement – the 12 Performance Measures. Each Measure contains a set of metrics that together\, provide a comprehensive evaluation tool for the consistent assessment of real estate development projects in the city of Pittsburgh to advance sustainable and equitable development practices. These Measures reflect a first step toward transformational change in how we plan and develop for the benefit of all. This year’s guided bike tour features unique greenspaces\, including gardens\, games\, colorful trailheads\, outdoor classrooms designed by youth\, a ribbon cutting ceremony\, and an historic incline site turned into a greenway\, and more. \nRefreshments such as iced coffee from Black Forge Coffee and bike-powered smoothies from Green Mountain Energy will be provided throughout the tour. Afterwards we will celebrate with a garden party at the Garden on Gearing with a food tent from Sweet Peaches and a pop-up playground with City of Play. \nRegister to experience these unique green spaces and meet the community members who made them possible. The ride will take place from 9 am – Noon\, followed by the garden party from Noon – 2 pm.The ride will start and conclude at the Garden on Gearing. When registering you have the option to sign up for a shorter relaxed route (4 miles) or a longer rigorous route ( 7 mile route with some hills). \n \nWe are excited about how this event continues to grow and helps fuel GTECH’s mission! DESCRIPTION:Join Grow Pittsburgh for the Grand Re-Opening to learn more about the GRC\, sign up\, and have fun! \nA program of Grow Pittsburgh since 2013\, the Garden Resource Center (GRC) reduces barriers to growing food while strengthening urban garden communities. SUMMARY:One Northside Traveling Block Party - Spring Hill Edition
DESCRIPTION:The Block Party\, a project of One Northside Pgh in partnership with The Buhl Foundation\, is excited to announce it’s first of five events in 2016 taking place in Spring Hill on Saturday May 1st. The Block Party is series of mini arts festivals that will call attention to and celebrate the valuable resources and local identities of Northside neighborhoods of Pittsburgh. GTECH is pleased to be participating to gather community input our Northside Neighborhoood Connections urban trail project. \nThis free festival will feature: \n• A mobile stage from Flyspace Productions featuring the local bands delicious pastries\, Brewer’s Row and The Get Down Gang – all bands with at least one resident of Spring Hill! \n• Food trucks will be onsite. \n• Stories about the neighborhood are being collected onsite by The Saturday Light Brigade. \n• Hands-on activities with Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse and Little House Big Art. \n• Public art with AIR: Artists Image Resource \n• Refreshments featuring the local\, in-progress brewery\, Spring Hill Brewing. \n• Activities with Mattress Factory – Museum of Contemporary Art. \n• Historical photos courtesy of Allegheny City Historic Gallery. \nBrought to you by your friends at New Hazlett Theater\, Deutschtown Music Festival and The Sprout Fund
